Are you looking for a place to heal your mind, body and spirit? Do you need to unplug and push the reset button? Do you want to make lifelong memories with friends or the whole family, including the grandparents? Sitting at the incredible convergence of 3 mountain streams in the center of the quiet bucolic & historic valley community of Conasauga, and on the former sight of a beautiful farm, the 20 acre Wit's End estate is the perfect place to accomplish each of these ends. Designed and built in 2008, and updated in 2020, Wit’s End is our family's escape from the world. It has several places for gathering together and plenty of comfortable quiet spots to get away from the crowd. There are 5 generous sized bedrooms. Four bedrooms have a queen size bed or larger and three bedrooms have adjoining private bathrooms. One bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. Another bedroom (and adjoining bathroom) is located on the main floor to accommodate people who don't relish climbing stairs.

The first floor has a surprisingly well equipped kitchen, with island and barstool area. It is the perfect setting to gather people together around food and preparing large meals. It opens out into a comfortably spacious great room with dining and living area. The dining room, with tasteful chandelier and antique French country table, can seat 10 comfortably, and 12 in a pinch. The lodge-like great room has a stack stone fireplace with gas logs, and comfortable, overstuffed furniture from which to take in views of the valley through the large windows and french doors that open onto the spacious deck. Grab a partner and play a board game at the game table in the corner while others do their thing (there are lots of board games in the first floor bedroom closet or bring your own).

More than just a cabin, Wit’s End has beautiful wood floors throughout the entire home. Hand selected rugs fill each room. The house is furnished with items that have been passed down through the generations or lovingly collected by the owners during their lifetime. Most of the art has been handcrafted by local artists and is inspired by the property itself or the mountains that surround the estate. It all works together to create a sense of comfort, welcome and belonging.

The large screened porch can be enjoyed throughout the year. It has a comfortable sitting area in front of another stacked stone fireplace (with gas starter) where small groups can gather for conversation or individuals can slip away to enjoy a book, a nap, or the sounds of the creek as it slips by, and the birds as they sing their songs. During the summer cool breezes offer refreshment. Conveniently located next to the kitchen, the porch also has a table that seats 10+ for outdoor dining. Overlooking the mountain valley and creek below, the enormous deck has a gas grill and another picnic table. The deck is large enough to host its own Adirondack chair seating area, fire pit, and space for your own corn hole tournament.

The second floor has 2 master bedrooms with adjoining private bathrooms. One bedroom has a king bed, with an antique door for a headboard. It overlooks the valley below. The other bedroom has a queen bed and has tranquil views into the hemlock forest behind the house.

The terrace level has 2 more daylight bedrooms and a full bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a queen bed and a view of the valley below. The other bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. Watch movies in the lower level great room with 55" TV, DVD player, electric fireplace and French doors that open onto an outdoor terrace equipped with porch swing and kids swings. Bring your favorite DVDs from home, pick up a few at the Red Box in town, or a select from our DVD collection. This "away space" is ideal for the kids or those in your party who need a break from the action upstairs.

The entire home is oriented to the great outdoors, with every room having at least 2 large windows and a view of the beautiful natural surroundings.

The real magic at Wit's End happens just outside the front door. Guests can’t help but notice the natural beauty of Wit's End. As soon as you round the last bend in the road the Wit’s End valley farm is displayed for you to see. Follow the fence line along the road and cross under the wooden arch and make your way down the driveway, crossing the creek. Eventually the house comes into view. Upon stepping out of your car you are greeted by what feels like the Black Forest, an almost pure grove of resplendent hemlock trees.

Strap on a pair of hiking shoes and begin your adventure on the extensive walking paths that wind throughout the property. Along the way admire the diversity of geography and beautiful plant habitats. From February to November you’ll always find beautiful native ferns and wildflowers blooming along the trail. Check the maps and connect with trails just beyond our border that go for hundreds of miles, and eventually connect to the infamous Appalachian Trail. The property boasts 8 footbridges that criss-cross the scenic Conasauga Creek and its tributary streams. Dip your feet into the pristine stream and encourage the kids to splash about while looking for treasure. Pan for gold and gems or look for crawdads and salamanders. Discover the private tree top deck that sits high above the creek and offers a bird's eye view of the creek and the valley beyond. Explore the meadow below the house and try your hand at horseshoes or bocce. Bring the football and play a game of tag football in the meadow. Check out the creekside pavilion with a bent-wood furniture sitting area, fireplace, and Pawley's Island hammock. It's just another fabulous spot to enjoy conversation or get away from the crowd and listen to the bold sounds of the creek or watch the butterflies flit among the cacophony of native summer wildflowers. The pavilion also has picnic tables for dining alfresco. The property's park-like setting has additional sitting areas, picnic tables, swings, and multiple campfire rings in which to help you immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings.

Take the guided hike and learn about the history of the valley, including its earliest residents, the native Cherokee. The remains of the settlement hold stories of the lives of early travelers and the hearty scotch-Irish settlers. Children at heart should, starting with the Cherokee, feel free to imagine life in the valley down through the centuries.

Situated at the foot of the Cohutta Mountain range, and bordering the US Forest Service, Wit's End is ground zero for exploring the dozens of mountain biking and hiking trails in the area. These trails can transport you back in time to primordial old growth forests that host some of the temperate world's most diverse plant life and carry you to pristine mountain streams, breathtaking vistas, and stunning waterfalls in the adjoining Chattahoochee National Forest, neighboring Cohutta Wilderness, Lake Conasauga Songbird Management Area, and nearby Fort Mountain State Park. The Pinhoti Trailhead, popular with mountain bikers, is a mere 2/10 of a mile from Wit's End. The Pinhoti Trail connects to the Benton MacKaye Trail (named for the founder of the Appalachian Trail) which eventually intersects with the infamous Appalachian Trail. The ever evolving and growing Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-way is just 2 miles up the road. Shh!! It's my understanding that if you call ahead and are real nice, you might be able to reserve yourself a spot at their famous country breakfast buffet that they serve to their guests.

If you feel the need to venture out, the great news is that civilization is not too far away. Downtown Ellijay, with its quaint town square provides shopping and restaurants and is just 10 miles away by paved road. Ellijay is also home to a number of beautiful wineries and apple houses which are fun to explore as well.

So, if you’re looking to 1) unplug from the hustle and bustle of life while 2) reconnect with the people and things that are most important in life, while also 3) resting and recharging your batteries and 4) making memories that last a lifetime, look NO further. It’s time to book a stay at Wit’s End.

Ellijay, Georgia, Verenigde Staten

While the house is well designed, tastefully decorated and very comfortable in all 4 seasons for 2 to 12 people at a time, we feel that it's the natural surroundings that set Wit's End apart. For folks interested in history, the house sits on an old farm in the historic community of Conasauga, the site of a former Cherokee Indian settlement. No other homes are visible from the private 20 acre estate enhancing your feel of being away from it all.

For those who like to meander and stroll but don't like having to get in their car, Wit's End is perfect. This past winter we enhanced and lengthened the Conasauga Creek trail on the property. You can walk right out the front door and hop on the trail. There's an easy 1 mile loop along the Conasauga Creek and the three streams that feed into it. We even have maps and printed trail guides to help you make the most of it. In addition the trails on the property link to longer adventures, like the Pinhoti Trail, beyond the borders of the property. The forest service roads that depart from the property heading deeper into the mountains are beautiful in their own right and link to all kinds of hiking and biking in the Chattahoochee NFS and Cohutta Wilderness, all of which are just a few short miles from Wit's End. The popular Pinhoti Trailhead is just a 1000 foot walk or ride up the gravel road. Fort Mountain State Park (paddle boats, canoes, swimming beach, putt-putt, and hiking) and Fort Mountain Stables are close as well. Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-way (two miles) is a neat place to check out.

The mountains, and specifically Wit's End, are always calling to my family and me. While I truly enjoy hiking and backpacking, a short stroll or lingering for a few minutes to soak in creation at Wit's End can be a magical experience. Enhancing nature's beauty through landscaping brings me deep satisfaction and sharing and introducing people to the works of nature is thrilling.
