De ruimte
Cedar Lodge is a elegant house situated in the picturesque village of Alvescot in Oxfordshire. It has undergone extensive renovation and makes for the perfect Cotswold getaway for any family or group.

The property is set on third of an acre and you are welcomed in through automated gates to ensure your privacy and security. The entrance hall is two stories with an open oak staircase leading up to a balcony. The landing with a shabby chic theme, a wrought iron chandelier and relaxing day bed (that can also be pulled out to a king sized bed to sleep 2) is the perfect place to unwind after walking the Cotswolds trails and visiting the local attractions.

There are 4 bedrooms in the property, 3 doubles (the master with an ensuite) and one single. Asides from the ensuite shower room, there is one other bathroom and one other shower room to cater the other guests.

The country style kitchen with its oak worktops, range cooker and oak flooring is a lovely space for socialising, cooking, eating or entertaining. There is also a dining room with all oak/leather furniture if you wanted somewhere more formal.

The living room is ideal for a cosy night in front of the log burner, watching TV and snuggling up on the leather sofas. This may be deserved after a long walk around the cotswold villages.

There is a lawn around the property for children to play and a patio for outside entertainment with a gas BBQ for those summer month. There is room on the driveway for 4 cars.

Waar je zult verblijven

Alvescot, Verenigd Koninkrijk

The glorious, honey-coloured towns and villages of the Cotswolds look as if they have strayed into the 21st century from another era. The sheep-shaped past here is appealingly evident in striking wool churches and manor houses built by wealthy textile merchants. Flourishes of later heritage include a fine legacy of the Arts and Crafts movement.

You'll also find rich seams of contemporary living, from roads dominated by 4x4s to pubs coated in Farrow & Ball paint tones – and much present-day charm too. The area is characterised by gentle dynamism, with lively galleries, vibrant festivals and a liberal endowment of intriguing museums.

Covering nearly 800 square miles across five counties (Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire), this region of “wolds", or rolling hills, is the biggest of the 38 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in England and Wales.

About 80 per cent of it remains farmland, divided by around 4,000 miles of dry stone walls and lavishly crisscrossed by walking trails – the Cotswold Way, from Chipping Campden in the northern extremes, stretches some 100 miles south. This rural region is fringed by some of the country's most cultured small cities: in the west is Cheltenham; in the south-east is Cirencester, while Bath lies to the south-west and Oxford to the east. Cedar Lodge is perfectly situated 2 miles away from the market town of Bampton where Downton Abbey was filmed and is only a 10 minute drive from the beautiful old Cotswold town of Buford.

Burford is well known for its old world charm with shops, galleries, country pubs, restaurants and cafes. The Burford Garden Centre is definitely worth a visit for finding all the ingredients that make a Cotswold home.

Guests with children can easily spend an entire day enjoying the Cotswold Wildlife Park (10mins drive) set in over 160 acres of beautiful parklands with an amazing collection of animals.

During the summer an alternative may be Cotswold Water Park (25 minutes drive) - waterskiing, sailing, boat rental, kayaking, canoeing, cycling and picnics.

We are also ideally situated for those wanting to attend the Cheltenham Races (40min drive) and there are plenty of taxi services available in the area.

Guests wanting to join the many pony-riding clubs in the area and follow the hunt may also use the livery in the village which will be able to provide for all your horsing needs.

There are lots of beautiful walks from the property and in the surrounding countryside. Most villages in the area are only a couple of miles from each other and all have wonderful village pubs to stop and savour the locally sourced produce and ales.

Places to eat:

The Plough, Alvescot
Just down the road, lovely food at reasonable prices.

The Plough, Clanfield
Combines a hotel with an upmarket restaurant, with prices to match.

The Five All’s, Filkins
A five minute drive to an upmarket, but reasonably priced restaurant. By far the most popular place to eat and drink locally.

The Swan, Southrop
Ivy covered 17th century inn serving locally sourced beautiful dishes. However can be pricy at times.

The Swan, Swinbrook
A beautiful Cotswold inn and restaurant with flagstone floors and oak decor that serves local ales.

When to come:

Every season has intrinsic appeal. Crowd-free winters are ideal for bracing walks, fire-side pub sessions. Come in spring to see lambs and wild daffodils. Visit in summer for magical light, particularly in the long evenings. Or make an autumn excursion for a quieter atmosphere and wonderful leaf colours.
