Wat je gaat doen

Join us for a sunset kayak tour to Montreal's foremost microbrewery on the banks of the Historic Lachine Canal.

We will depart from the historic Atwater Market and head West towards the St-Paul locks. As the first and only paddle shop established on the Lachine Canal almost 20 years ago, we will share our unique perspective on the history of the canal and the recent development and gentrification of the surrounding neighbourhoods.

As we travel directly south of the downtown core, you will discover a one-of-a-kind view of the city. We'll also share interesting tidbits about local restaurants and shops. (Did you know Joe Beef used to keep a bear in the basement of his bar to "encourage" patrons to leave at closing!

We'll quickly get out to see the locks before we enter the St-Ambroise Brewery for a drink as the sun sets on one of Montreal's first micro-breweries. We'll get a tour of the brewery and learn about the brewing process and enjoy a few tasty samples before heading back at dusk, experiencing the city as it lights up for the evening.

No kayaking experience is required but if you need instruction arrive early and we'll be happy to give a few tips.

We also offer this tour. https://abnb.me/VblI3EvvbY
Other things to note
The tour is ideal for those looking for a short outing learning about the history of Montreal. Plus you'll get to sample an award winning pint from McAuslen. No swimming! No experience necessary.

I started kayaking in high school and loved it so much I made it my career. In 1996 I co-founded a kayaking school and have been teaching and guiding ever since. I was even a kayaking extra in movie once.

In 2001 we set up on the Lachine Canal and I was so enamored that I moved to the neighbourhood. Since then, I have researched the amazing history and rejuvenation of the area which I love to share during my tours.

Due to the popularity of the experiences I am offering, my assistants Dylan, Alex or/and Sarah could be joining us or leading the trips. Dylan speaks French, English and Spanish fluently and Sarah is a ray of sunshine who has been assisting me for two seasons. Alex is a professional guide.

The Dylans were really great hosts and we had a fantastic time on the tour. The local history we got on the water was interesting and the the brewery tour was a fun peek into a local industry, not to mention that the samples at the brewery were very tasty and very generous. The Dylans did a really good job of making sure that everyone was having a good time and engaging with all of the guests. Even with a bit of rain on the paddle back to the dock, I would definitely recommend this tour. Extra tip: Bring sunglasses and/or a hat. You're paddling into the sun on the way to the brewery.

The kayaking and the brewery parts were both a blast. Tour guides were super friendly and knowledge, and the beer was great. I definitely recommend staying away from the tandem kayaks. My wife and I both have prior experience kayaking and still had a tough time getting it to go straight.

This was a great way to end our trip! It is a lovely trip up and back down the canal with a brewery tour in the middle. The kayaking is very laid back. Perfect for beginners (they have several different types of kayaks based on your comfort level). The brewery tour is very informing and they are generous with their beer if you are particularly curious about a type. A “beer” is probably an understatement as they have you try almost all their beers if you like! Advice (not criticism): bring sunglasses if you’re in the afternoon tour. Sun was right in my eyes on the way to the brewery. Great time! If we come back to Montreal, we will do it again!

We were hesitant about this tour but we ended up feeling very happy that we joined the group. The tour guides were fantastic, the setting magical. We had more than enough beer lol! And learned a lot too! Try to squeeze this one in before the season is over!

We went on the Kayak and Brewery tour with The Dylans - Big and Little, great stories and background info from Dylan as we paddled up the canal to the brewery, and a nice little workout. Then we got a pint from St. Ambroise brewery and enjoyed the outside views (no time for food though) and then a really great behind the scenes brewery tour by Yanick - and more beer to try! We went through the smaller annex and the larger main brewery, heard the stories, info on making beer, and had a really good time. Then we paddled back down the canal (which was easier). Great value, good times, good beer, nice people. No snacks though - either being some, eat before going, or ask if you can call ahead and order a delicious looking pizza to be ready for when you arrive. Also: paddle fast so you have more time for the beer!
