Wat je gaat doen
For a truly local experience join me and my family for dinner. You are firstly invited to walk around our private garden full of fresh organic vegetables to pick for our cooking demonstration, hear the sound of our free range chickens and see our fish pond. We will have a welcoming tea ceremony followed by our cooking demonstration of traditional cakes. Afterwards sit back and relax as you will be seated for a delicious dinner including 6 freshly prepared local dishes carefully made by my Father and I. During dinner we shall talk about the preparation beforehand and how the dishes are cooked. We can issue out recipe booklets. Once you are nicely full of food and wonderful conversation with my family we shall sample different types of rice wine and find your favourite . At the end you will receive a parting gift and a polaroid photo as a memory of a fantastic night.
Other things to note
This is not a gourmet tour but a family food tour. It is also adaptable for vegetarians. The tour is not suitable for vegans, celiacs, dairy allergic, picky eaters,people with limited walking capacity

My name is Hamson , I have worked in tourism as a tour guide for 5 years and traveled in Asia and around Europe. I have worked in hotels restaurantfor the past few years, although my true passion lies in cooking. Inspiried by my father who is also a Chief, I have been following in his footsteps the last 10 years and have owed restaurants and hostels in different locations in China. Now married, I decided to return to my village-sunshine yard. We want to give a different experience from the standard cooking class and offer an alternative to travelers who want a more local family experience.

Hamson and his family were wonderful hosts. They invited us into their home and we celebrated the winter solstice together, with special, delicious and traditional foods and drinks along with much interesting global discussion.
We were given ingredients and skills to take home with us and to recreate some of the dishes at home.
We even went to feed the animals and pick the vegetable from their kitchen garden in this beautiful spot.
Hamson kindly picked us up from our hotel too which made finding the place super easy.
We recommend this experience highly, it was a joy.

What a great decision making my way to Hamson's lovely farm and sharing cooking and dining table with them. Being in their wonderful vegie garden and looking at the beautiful mountains around, I was given the affirmation that travelling is more about healing and understanding. Without genuine human contact, what's the meaning rushing from one place to another? I was a stranger to Yangshuo and its people, after the big village family dinner, I am one of them. Thank Hamson for the most delicious authentic food and the very precious company of you and your lovely family.

We had the most wonderful experience with Hamson! He was super friendly and enthusiastic, and his hospitality made us feel at home! This is an idyllic village life that is definitely worth experiencing- feeding the animals, picking the eggs, harvesting vegetables, preparing for dinner, all memorable! The dishes were prepared with a great display of skills and efficiency, and were delicious as expected, better than the restaurants in the area in our opinion. The ingredients such as dried bamboo and tea from Hanson’s family, and his own preserved the fish and vegetables , made everything extra special. Highly recommend!

Hamson picked us (2 ppl) up from our hotel and showed us the place where he lives (20-30mins drive from Yangshuo city center). He prepared a traditional chinese tea ceremony first and then we went into his garden to collect some vegetables and herbs for the cooking. We also fed the chickens and rabbits. We prepared 2 meals together and he prepared some additional ones. The preparation is really easy and the meals are super delicious. Advice: bring an empty stomach - it’s so much food!! Hamson told us some stories of his life and we were really grateful getting to know him. We totally recommend this cooking session to anyone :)
