Wat je gaat doen

Where does the Tokyo salaryman go after a hard day at the office? Shibuya is for the younger generation, Roppongi will take a bite out of your wallet. Let's go to Shimbashi! First we'll meet up in Ginza and as we walk through a ritzy bar area on the way to Shimbashi, I'll give you a history of Tokyo. We'll take our first pit stop at a standing sake bar and mingle with salarymen who are eager to practice their English with you. You pay for what you drink. Next we'll explore the side streets where you will be surrounded by a sea of salarymen and lose count of how many eating establishments we pass. We won't be stopping to eat, but I'll tell you about all the food and maybe you will be tempted into taking a return visit. We will discover what's under the train tracks as we leave Shimbashi and walk down Ginza Corridor (a row of restaurants) to Yakitori Alley, one of the few remaining street food spots. We will stop at a beer vending machine next to Yurakucho station for a quick beer break then continue on to a modern office building with a terrace and a beautiful view of Tokyo, allowing you to really soak in both old and new Tokyo.

Let's unwind with the office workers. Originally from Los Angeles, Tokyo has been my home for more than a decade. Even now I'm still exploring neighborhoods and enjoying cultural events and of course discovering new (and old) restaurants and bars. In particular, I love learning the city's history and can share with you how Tokyo went from the samurai era to become a dynamic metropolis. Finally I can put my college major in Japanese Studies to use! My other interests are urban design, karaoke, Japanese girl rock bands, and running. So I'd like to think I'm as eclectic as this great city!

Waar je zult zijn

The districts we will be walking in at night are Ginza and Shimbashi. Ginza is one of the most famous places in Tokyo. For most of the 20th century it was the center of Tokyo. Shimbashi is where office workers go to unwind. It is off the tourist map. Our starting point is Ginza station and finish is Tokyo station. We will stop at a standing sake bar for a drink, a beer vending machine and a terrace with a beautiful view.
