Wat je gaat doen
Come aboard Kamehameha as we explore our favorite routes under sail! We will meet at the prestigious and traditional Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, where I have been a member for many years. Arriving at the club you will find your individual invite (guest admission fee already included) at the reception. After checking-in you will walk down the main hallway towards the waterfront and the seating area, where you will wait for boarding. After boarding and general briefings, we will raise sails and navigate alongside Sugar Loaf and away from the Corcovado hill and its statue of Christ, The Redeemer. As we progress, we may teach you some sailing tricks, if you're interested, and help you identify different sites of Rio including Flamengo Beach, Santa Teresa, downtown, the airport, the old fortresses built mid-16th century, and also the sister-city of Niterói across the bay. CONDITIONS PERMITTING, we may also sail out of the bay towards the oceanic beaches and islands where swimming is possible. Midway through the experience, we'll share a drink and finger foods. If you prefer a more peaceful atmosphere, calmer seas and warmer midday sun, please reserve our late morning experience. On the other hand, if you want to add more punch to your experience and crown it with a spectacular sunset, join our late afternoon sail.
In 2008 I left my job in banking to dedicate full time to sailing, both as a sport and a lifestyle. I fell in love with it in the early 80's and have sailed thousands of miles along Brazil's coastline, as Captain and Owner of "Kamehameha", the beautiful 39.5-foot open-ocean sailboat you will board as a guest (and disembark as sailor!). I am duly licensed for international navigation by the Brazilian Navy and will do my utmost to make your sailing experience a life changing experience! Daniel Gurjão is my co-host and also a licensed skipper. Sailing and surfing are his passions! He will be delighted to share stories on his overseas sailing experiences as crew-member of transatlantic passages to Saint Marteen in the Caribbean, the Azores and Lisbon. Please let us share our passion for sailing with you!
