Wat je gaat doen
We will walk through trendy Centro Habana and Cayo Hueso, the most populated district in Havana, outside the regular tourists' spots. You will see and learn on Cuban's daily life at first hand. We'll visit bodegas (local grocerys) a shopping mall, bus stops, wifi parks, a pet clinic, a House of Culture and some new private business in the area. I will show you some retro visions at the visited places, including the remains of the first Havana's cemetery, now surrounded by a neighborhood. We will see mixed architectural styles at the Cayo Hueso area: barroco, Art Nouveau, eclecticism, and the grey solid socialist-styled Gran Panel buildings for popular housing facilities. A lot of scenes will be available for street photography: markets and fruit stalls, parks, culture attractions and the wall paintings and Afrocuban sculptures at Hamel's Alley. We will finish next to Saint Lazaro's watchtower at the Maceo Park, in front of Malecon promenade. This is not only about history, but the daily challenges and the oddities of life on a vibrant neighborghood. Great pictures for your memories are included.
I'm a licensed photographer, 100% Habanero, father of three and easy-going wanderer. Graduated at Havana Lyceum and the AU Open University Art of Photography course and Higher Advanced English course at International School of Havana. You can see some pictures on my Instagram handle: @havanaphotowalk I've organized photosafaris in Havana for years. I know the streets and remote alleys in Centro Havana, where I lived during a while and keep updated background info. Witness Cubans'daily life at streets, groceries, wifi-parks and other Cayo Hueso places, away from the tourist´s beaten paths.
