Empowering everyday Indians through hosting

Across India, Airbnb is investing in people, giving aspiring and existing hosts the tools, training and mentorship to build thriving homestays. In partnership with state tourism departments, NGOs and local organisations, our programmes help turn spare rooms into income-generating opportunities for local communities.
Our flagship Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy in Goa, the first of its kind in India, empowers new homestay entrepreneurs with skills in hospitality, business fundamentals and sustainable hosting, with a focus on women and rural/hinterland communities. Every host we support becomes a micro-entrepreneur, every home a gateway to India’s tourism future, and every guest helps circulate value deeper into local communities.

Before the Airbnb academy training, we were running a homestay without really knowing how. Airbnb taught us important skills like how to register, how to host, and how to share our culture. It gave me the confidence to grow my small idea into a livelihood for my family and others.

We went in unsure, but those three days of training changed everything — from how we welcome guests to how we set a room. It gave us the confidence and conviction we needed to grow as hosts.

Every guest is a new chapter in the book of life. Hosting has opened my world, taught me to stay open-minded, and shown me how deeply people can connect when a home becomes a place of learning and comfort.

Hosting makes life exciting. Every day brings new people, new stories, and new learnings. Seeing guests feel renewed and at home here is what keeps us going.

India’s tourism vision aims for sustainable, inclusive growth. Airbnb supports these goals by enabling micro-entrepreneurs, decentralising tourism income to smaller towns, and nurturing skills that last a lifetime. Our hosts are living proof of the power of policy and private sector partnerships.

This initiative presents an excellent opportunity for Goa to leverage its unique cultural and natural assets while empowering local communities. By equipping residents with the skills to operate homestays, we are not only fostering economic growth but also advancing regenerative tourism and women’s empowerment.
